Anyway, here's my story and how this web page came to be:
About Me - My Story
I've always been interested in growing taller. This is probably because up until just recently, I was always a rather short guy (I was 5 foot 6 inches tall). I stopped growing way back when I was only 14 years old. This really sucked for me because all of my friends kept on growing and I didn't.
Being shorter than almost everyone else really hurt my self-esteem. Especially in high school and college where a lot of people can be so superficial.
High school was the worst for me. That's when I stopped growing and I became the short guy in class. For many years in high school, bullies would pick on me because of my height, making jokes about my short stature and calling me hurtful names like "shorty" or "pipsqueak." Even my so-called friends would routinely crack jokes about my height. I pretended like it didn't bother me - but it did. It really bothered me a lot.
It was awful. I never got picked for playing any team sports in high school because I was probably seen as being weaker and less athletic because of my height - even though I had some pretty good basketball and baseball skills back then. And as far as dating was concerned, I was always so self-conscious about my lack of height that I rarely ever had the nerve to ask a girl out on a date. I was a smart, decent looking guy with a good sense of humor but that didn't seem to matter because most girls in my school didn't want to date a short guy. Most girls I liked just wanted to be "friends." I had a few dates here and there, but they were nothing serious and they weren't with the girls that I really liked.
I always knew that girls would find me a lot more attractive if I were just a few inches taller.
I desperately wanted to go out and have fun like everyone else, but for some reason I often found myself withdrawing from people and activities because I hated being the short person in the group. I was always terrified that people (especially girls) would make fun of me because of my height, so as a result I often avoided joining in or going out with groups of people.
I'm an only child and my father was 5 foot 11 inches tall and my mother was 5 foot 7 inches tall so I couldn't blame genetics for my lack of height. So I started believing that being short was my fault. This made me feel even worse. Even though I was physically in very good shape, I started believing that if I ate more vegetables and a healthy diet it would help me to grow. So in my junior year of high school I started depriving myself of snacks and I went on a serious health kick and exercise regimen. I hoped that this would help jump-start my body into growing taller.
Well unfortunately, diet and exercise didn't make me grow taller. My physique looked better but girls weren't interested in me anyway so it really didn't matter.
After all that hard work, I was still a tall guy trapped in a short guy's body.
I was glad when high school came to an end. I looked forward to going off to college because I hoped that college girls would be mature enough to look past my height and find me attractive for who I am.
I went off to college at the age of 18 where I lived on campus in a dorm. In the 4 years that I spent in college, I had a pretty good time. I made a lot of good friends and had a lot of laughs, but my sex life was pretty pathetic. On a campus full of thousands of tall, good looking guys, girls just weren't interested in dating a guy who was shorter than them.
In fact, I remember that I once asked out a girl in one of my classes and she flat out turned me down. She told me that she only thought of me as a friend. Since we had been friends, I asked her to be honest with me and tell me why she would not go out with me and she replied, "Because you're just not tall enough. I like tall guys." Hearing this destroyed my self-esteem that day but I was at least glad that she told me the truth. I needed to hear it. I secretly knew that this was the reason why I could never get a decent date.
Anyway, even though I didn't have much success dating while in college, at least most guys wouldn't joke with me about my height or make fun of me. There were a few exceptions but those guys were rude to everyone.
As an Adult
Once I graduated college I was out on my own in the real world looking for a job. As a college graduate with a 3.5 gpa and a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, I should have been able get almost any job I wanted, right? Well, not exactly.
Maybe I was just being paranoid because I was short, but it seemed to me like every person I met with who interviewed me for a job was surprised by how short I was. I was qualified for all of the jobs I interviewed for but I never got any job offers or 2nd interviews.
That's when I really started looking at this "height thing" on a whole new level.
I had read news articles before which claimed that shorter people are often discriminated against because of subconscious misconceptions people have about shorter people. These articles would suggest that shorter people are not viewed the same as taller people. Apparently, short people are not seen as leaders. Short people are also viewed as being less capable of doing their job as well as a taller person.
Personally, I never believed that any of this could be true - at least not until I had an unbelievably hard time finding a job!
Then it finally started to dawn on me - being short effects everything!
People judge you based on how you look. An important part of your appearance is your height. So yes it's true - height does matter!
I guess I was naive to think that height wouldn't matter in the business world but I was wrong. People are people no matter where you are or whatever the circumstance. First impressions mean everything on a job interview. Job interviewers would take one look at me and immediately know that they had no intention of hiring me. I don't pretend to know all of the reasons why. Maybe they don't even know all of the reasons why. But the fact remains that most people discriminate against shorter people.
And it's not even like I'm a little person (dwarf). Heck, I was 5'6" which isn't bad in many parts of the world. But in the USA, if you're a man you need to be at least 5'9" in order to be taken seriously. It's very sad but certainly true in my experience.
So anyway, I started realizing just how important height is to most people. That's when I finally decided to do something that I swore I would never do - and that's buy one of those heel inserts that you put inside your shoes to make you 2 inches taller.
I must admit that I did enjoy the feeling of being taller when I wore the heel lifts. I noticed more attention from women than I had ever had before. I had a lot more self-confidence. And best of all, I believe those heel lifts are what helped me land my first job. Rather than walking into the office and being the shortest guy there, I was pretty close to the same height as everyone else - and people seem to want to hire other people that are like them.
Wearing the heel lifts was great except for when it came time to take off my shoes or play sports with my new work buddies. I found that you can't really wear the lifts while playing sports because it throws off your balance. Not only that, it's very easy for your shoe to fall off when wearing sneakers with lifts inside. That would be so embarrassing! So once again I would often find myself making excuses after work so that I could avoid shooting hoops or playing raquetball with my boss and co-workers. I didn't want anyone to find out that I was really a short guy pretending to be taller.
The Dating Scene
I finally had a good job that I enjoyed and some new friends from work but I still did not have a girlfriend. I admit, I was very lonely. I had plenty of girl "friends" (the just wanted to remain friends) but no girls were interested in me romantically.
Like any guy in his 20's, I went out to bars and clubs to meet women but the attractive girls were always interested in my taller friends even if they were less attractive. I'd wear my heel lifts whenever I went out but even with them on my height was only 5'8" which is still shorter than the average guy. After a drink or two, I could be pretty flirtatious and not afraid of approaching girls so that wasn't the problem. The problem - once again - was that I wasn't tall enough for them. In a crowded bar full of taller guys, I looked like a child. At least I felt like a child because I was smaller than the other guys there.
Eventually, after years of working hard and living alone, I finally met a wonderful woman at work who was a temp and we struck up a close friendship. She learned to see the real me - someone who is funny and intelligent and caring. When I confessed to her that I wanted to be more than friends, I was expecting her to turn me down and give me the "let's just remain friends" speech that I had heard so many times before. But to my surprise she was interested too so we started dating and eventually I married this girl.
She's a great girl and I love her and she didn't mind that I was shorter. Although she did laugh out loud at me when she discovered my heel lifts which was very embarrassing. But she understood because she is a bit short as well - only 5 foot tall. She told me that she had experienced many of the same problems, mockery and height discrimination that I had felt since the age of 15 when I stopped growing. Our lack of height is a secret bond we share and we understand how each other feels.
But that still didn't mean that I was happy with my height...
In fact, I would have given every penny I had to be taller!
Maybe by this time it had started to become an obsession for me, but I still hated being the short guy everywhere I went.
Even though my wife loved me for who I was, I still had a burning desire to be taller. She thought my obsession was silly and she told me that I should just try to be happy with the height that I have. I appreciated her trying to help but I was determined to prove to her that I could find a way to make myself taller.
My Search For a Way to Grow Taller
Like I said, I decided that I would find a way to grow taller. Nothing would stop me. That's when I started doing as much research as possible into growing taller. I read every book and article I could find. Then I hit the internet and starting looking into ways to make myself taller.
I discovered that surgery was an option for some people, but I didn't feel comfortable going under the knife. Plus, I didn't like reading some of the horror stories from people who had been permanently disabled as a result of their surgeries! And not only that, it's super expensive and not covered by regular insurance. So to me, surgery was NOT an option.
So what other options are there?
Well, as a person who tries to exercise and be healthy, I liked the idea of finding something that was completely safe and natural. I found that there were several different web sites which had offered sort of exercise program that they promised would make you taller. One at a time, I tried every one of them that I could find. Some of those exercise programs were so poorly written that I couldn't even understand what they were saying. They butchered the English language. And when I did figure out what they were saying, I followed their program but I got no results. Zero. Zilch.
I then turned my attention to height increasing pills. There were a lot of different web sites selling these "all-natural" pills which promised to make you taller. I wasn't sure if they would actually work but I figured I'd give them a shot. Over the course of about 10 months, I tried at least 5 different brands and none of them did anything for me at all. In fact, a few of those web sites ended up disappearing after I ordered so I had no way to even return my bogus pills for a refund.
At this time I was starting to get discouraged. Maybe my wife was right. Maybe all of these "height increasing programs and pills" are just scams and none of them really work.
I was still hopeful, but I was really starting to doubt that I could ever get taller.
Then one night while surfing the net I came across a brand new exercise program that I had never tried before called Adding Height. It was a nice looking web site and I like what they had to say so I decided to give their exercise program a try.
After all, maybe this time the results will be different.
And boy, were they ever!
My Experiences with the Adding Height program
First of all, unlike similar programs, their program was very straight-forward and easy to follow. It was well-written and their theories and explanations about each exercise made a lot of sense. I also liked the fact that unlike other programs, they actually had a weekly schedule for you to follow that you could tailor as you saw fit. This was a first for any program so my hopes were very high.
I started their program on a Monday and I followed their schedule exactly as they recommend. Not only were the exercises pretty easy but they were a lot of fun. I liked that they really mixed it up each day so that you were always doing something different. That way, I never felt bored with it. Each day I only spent about 20 minutes doing the program and I took a break from it on the weekends like they suggest.
I knew that I shouldn't expect overnight results so I refrained from measuring myself for 4 weeks because I wanted to give the program some time to work first. After exactly 30 days I got out the tape measure and my wife carefully measured my height for the first time. I can still remember the look of surprise on her face when she said "Oh my god, you just grew an inch and a half!" I said, "What? You're kidding???!!!" She excitedly replied, "I'm not kidding - here take a look!" It was true. Neither of us could believe it. In fact, I still can't believe it but it's true. The measuring tape doesn't lie.
Since the age of 14 I had been 5' 6" tall. Now, at the age of 28, just 30 days after starting the Adding Height program, I was 5' 7 1/2" tall!
My wife was finally a believer. I had done it. I had finally found a real way to make myself taller. And don't just think that I stopped there. I kept on doing the program more diligently than ever, and my wife starting doing it too. After another 60 days on the program, I had grown another 3/4 of an inch and my wife had grown exactly 1 inch!
I then decided to give pills another try. In their program, Adding Height recommends an all-natural height enhancement supplement called Stature-Rx. They claim it's a very effective pill for growing taller and is good to use with their program, especially after a few months once you start to reach a plateau in your results. So I ordered a 5 month supply of Stature-Rx and starting taking it daily as recommended while continuing the Adding Height program. They were having some sort of special deal so I also decided to try a half-priced bottle of something called IGF1-RX with my Stature-Rx order. The IGF1-RX is supposed to boost your IGF-1 levels which are closely linked to determining your height, so I thought I'd try it.
30 days after starting the Stature-Rx and IGF1-RX I measured myself again and I had grown another 1 FULL INCH! I thought, "WOW - THIS STUFF WORKS!" My wife had previously decided not to take the Stature-Rx because she doesn't like to take any pills including aspirin, however, once she saw the added results I got she made me give her a bottle and she began taking it that same night!
Both my wife and I kept doing the Adding Height program while taking Stature-Rx each day. So far I had been using Adding Height for 3 months and Stature-Rx for only 1 month. My wife had been using Adding Height for 1 month and was just starting to take Stature-Rx. We agreed to only measure ourselves every 30 days. Over the next few months, each time we measured each other, we had grown just a little bit more. It was very exciting and super motivating for us both! I ordered more Stature-Rx at some point because my wife had taken half of my supply for herself. Finally, after 5 more months I tallied the results...
